Baron 1898 is the new rollercoaster of De Efteling. It is a dive coaster built by B&M. The ride is 30 metres high, and has a drop of 37 metres. The topspeed will be 90 kilometres per hour. The ride will be themed to a coalmine that has found some gold. However, some evil ghosts will stop the boss of the mine, called Gustave Hooghmoed. The ride has 2 pre-shows in the waiting area. When you enter the building the ride will begin, First you hear a story about the mine in 2 languages. Later Gustave will instruct you in the second preshow where you have to go for your ride.
The coaster has an indoor preshow which is incredibly done. With a 30M high lifthill you will be brought to the drop. After a few seconds the big dive into the tunnel starts. Followed by an Immelman, and a Zero-G-Roll. Which is unique on this type coaster. With a strong helix, and a small bump the ride will end back in the station. The ride is amazing, strong and also pretty short. But if you count it together with the pre-shows. The ride is pretty long.

This is the first B&M of The Netherlands? Even of the Benelux! That caused a lot of ''yaaaay'' yelling fans. Since B&M is a kind of king of the coasters.
- Popularity Attraction
The ride is very popular by the visitors. It will be probably the most popular ride of the park.
- Waiting Times
The waiting times are probably going over the 100 minutes the first summer. Normal waiting time will be about 45 minutes, and 100+ minutes during the summer season.
- Theming attraction
The ride is themed to a coalmine with a little avant-garde/art-nouveau. It is a very special style within the efteling. The building and the pre-shows are very nicely done, and it seems everything is just perfectly done. The waiting area outside is a little boring if we look at the theme, but good enough there is a very good coaster to look at. And with the trees that still have to grow, we surely know that this is the best themed thrill coaster of the park.

The ride works pretty well, no problems during the first seasons.
